1/10/2024 0 Comments Edge tuner 5.3 chevy review![]() I'm in 4th gear (my Tahoe only has 4 gears). Let's say I'm cruising 70mph on the highway. If that's what you mean then the best way I can explain it is like this: I'm going to assume you mean that when you're climbing a hill, whether or not it downshifts. I'm not sure what you mean by "holds the gear more". I'm really shitty at explaining this I know lol. You can feel that split moment between 1 and 2. It's kind of hard to explain but instead of just going from 1 to 2 without feeling anything in your engine/trans, you feel it shift. Its NOT a jerk that throws you around in your seat, if it does that then you have major issues lol. It doesnt behave more like a manual, you just feel the shifts more. I guess technically it's more clutch saver than transmission. If you want the contact info for the guy I went to let me know! Hes from Iowa but he travels to neighboring states to tune a group of trucks every now and then. ![]() Personally I only have an intake and exhaust but that's all I need, the truck is nearing 190k on the original motor and has been as reliable as an old friend. Just make sure you get all the performance parts on there that you want before you get it tuned (exhaust, intake, headers, etc). ![]() Sure, it's not gonna turn your 5.3 into a racecar, but it saves your engine, your trans, and your MPG. On the drive home I had to get used to the tune, I was used to having to give alot of pedal to keep my speed on the highway, but after the tune I looked down and I was cruising at 90. I often find myself having to use cruise control because the truck accelerates so easily now. Now when I drive I dont have to shift down nearly as much. Feels way better when I drive and it saves your transmission life. One of my favorite things about it is that I can feel my shift points now. Then he wiped my trucks computer and we did the same thing of driving and doing pedal to the medal pulls. He had me drive like I normally do in city and highway, then he had me pull off to the side of the road and do a few 100% throttle pulls from a complete stop. He hooked his computer up to my truck and we went on a drive. I went and got a custom tune from a guy in Iowa, easily the best guy to go to for tuning and is 5 star rated across the board. Aerodynamics worked against me and noticed that I was always downshifting on even the slightest hills when cruising above 55. I added a K&N Intake and MF exhaust to my truck, as well as lifted it and put offset 33s on. Huge noticeable increase in MPG, torque, horsepower, and I can feel my shift points!!! Nothing even comes close to a custom live tune. If you want the short answer: get a custom live tune from an actual tuning place that knows what they are doing. performance tests and reaction times as well as display mph, time, and distance.01 Tahoe with the 5.3 here, absolutely love this engine and this Hoe.
